Blogging 101

I was given the chance to talk about blogging to the Femmes for Jesus and Band of Brothers , the youth group of our church. It was my hubby who encouraged them to join the blog0ophere considering that it’s a fruitful way to earn and at the same time learn. He told them that instead of spending money,time and effort chatting on facebook and playing various online games, why not use the internet productively through blogging. So here’s the excerpt of my lecture.

How to create a Blog and earn through it.

1) Create a Blog.
You can do this from any of the free hosted blogs like blogspot.com or wordpress.com. For a blogspot blog you can go to www.blogger.com to create a free account or wordpress.com. I personally started with Blogger as per advised from my blog tutor. I wish to create another with wordpress...but I find it to be complicated.

Create a theme of your blog... you can make it as a personal blog or with an specific topic like Health, Home, Sports, Parenting, Technology,Fashion, Cooking, Religion...etc.

Go to Btemplates.com for your desired Blog Template.


2) Post articles as many as you can
Do not rush on monetizing your blog . Post as many articles as you can for 3 months . Make sure to make a total of more than 30 posts a month. Most of the paying companies accept blogs that are more than 3 months old .

3) Build your traffic and links.
While waiting for you blog to mature, build your traffic by letting people know about your blog by doing the ff :

a) Blog hopping – visiting other blog sites and leave comments to their post
b) Xlinks – add other sites to your bloglist and request them to add yours too
c) Create an account with other traffic building sites like entrecard, adgitize, technorati, alexa and facebook network blog.
d) Submit your site to Google and Yahoo Blog Directory

4) Aim for your blog to get a Page Rank.
Page rank is googgle’s ranking or rating to a site . The higher your page rank is the greater the opportunities or task you will get from advertisers. You will learn more about page rank as you go along with your blogging.

5) Create a Paypal Account
Pay pal is where the advertiser pay you. So it is necessary to create an account with them ( www.paypal.com) either personal or premier . Pay pal is used in the world wide web because it is very safe, secure and credible. Opening an account is Free. You can withdraw your money from paypal by adding your atm card but check first your bank’s paypal code online. For me, I am using Unionbank Eon Cyber Account. Annual payment is only P350 and there is no maintaining balance .
